Instructions

Step 1 – Roast the Nuts

Heat a dry skillet over medium heat.

  • walnuts

for 3–5 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant.

Remove and cool.

for 2–3 minutes.

Remove from heat.

No need to roast chia or flax seeds.

Place dates in a food processor.

Blend until a sticky paste forms.

If dates are dry:

  • soak in warm water for 10 minutes
  • drain well
  • pat dry before blending.

Step 4 – Chop the Nuts

Pulse roasted nuts in the food processor.

Leave them slightly chunky for texture.

Do not make nut butter.

  • cranberries

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Why are my ladoos falling apart?

The mixture is likely too dry. Add a few more dates or 1–2 teaspoons of ghee, coconut oil, or nut butter and mix again.

Why are they too sticky?

The dates may be very soft or moist. Add more chopped nuts, oats, or seeds until the mixture is easier to handle.

Can I use other dried fruits?

Yes. Try dried figs, apricots, prunes, mulberries, or unsweetened cherries. Chop larger fruits into small pieces.

Can I make them nut-free?

Yes. Replace the nuts with extra pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and rolled oats. The texture will be different but still delicious.

Can I skip chia or flax seeds?

Yes. You can omit them or substitute additional sesame, sunflower, or pumpkin seeds.

Are these suitable for children?

Yes, for most children over 1 year old. For younger children, finely chop nuts and dried fruit to reduce choking risk. If your child has a nut or seed allergy, use suitable alternatives.

Can I use a blender instead of a food processor?

A high-powered blender can work, but a food processor is easier for making a sticky date paste without over-processing the nuts.

Do I need to roast the nuts and seeds?

Roasting is optional, but it enhances flavor and crunch. Allow them to cool before mixing with the dates.

Are these keto-friendly?

No. Dates and raisins are naturally high in carbohydrates. For a lower-carb version, use fewer dates and incorporate more nuts and seeds, though the texture will change.

Are they vegan?

Yes, if you use coconut oil instead of ghee, or omit the added fat entirely if the date mixture binds well.

Can I add spices?

Absolutely. Cardamom is traditional, and cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, or a pinch of cloves all pair well with the dried fruit.
